ABOUT US
General Information
St. Joseph High School is a minority school and was founded and established by the Catholic Church in 1875. It is administered by St. Joseph’s Church, Umerkhadi, a Roman Catholic Church. The school is under the religious jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Mumbai. The high school is recognised and affiliated to the State Board of Education, the Government of Maharashtra and the Primary to the B.M.C.
School Organization
In the education of our students, co-curricular and extra curricular activities play a vital part. A particular aspect of these activities is participation of the students in the School Management. Thus, the student learns under the supervision of a teacher to do things for themselves, and thus, to view the practical side of important but abstract ideas of duty, co-operation and responsibility.
The House System
In order to inculcate a healthy spirit of competition and to get the best out of each individual student, St. Joseph High School’s students are divided into four Houses. Each House is named after an important personality. The Houses are divided as follows:
Gandhi House : Blue
Nehru House : Green
Tilak House: Yellow
Tagore House: Red
The School Council
It is a body established to put into practice the aims and objectives of the House system. The Council is made up of the Head Boy, Head Girl, Asst. Head Boy, Asst. Head Girl, School Captains, School Vice-Captains, as well as the class Prefects and Monitors, and Asst. Prefects and Monitors, and other representatives of the various activities and organisation. The Meetings of the council are conducted on a Parliamentary basis. They help the staff in carrying out various responsibilities in the school, especially discipline before school starts during the recess and at the end of the school. The Council also looks into the cleanliness of the school and helps to maintain order at school functions.
